The palace houses are a characteristic type of dwelling of Andalusian nobility. Their origin lies between the 15th and 17th centuries and they arose due to various historical events such as the prosperity achieved thanks to the enactment of free trade with the colonies, the setting up of the newly known role of the merchant seamen to the Indies, etc.

From the eighteenth century onwards this economic progress increased thanks to the emerging local wine industry, especially in Jerez de la Frontera. During this time there was a great deal of trade between this town and Great Britain, leading to the blossoming and development of a singular domestic architecture.

Some buildings that preserved their essence could still be seen until well into the 19th century. Most were built on three floors with a patio, on the ground floor, the distinctive element which is common to almost all of them.

The patio is a very representative component of each house’s category, to which special attention is paid as it can be seen from the street and it is accessed through a hallway with a portico. The family coat of arms is placed at the house’s main entrance.

The best patios are very spacious and stately, with elegant columns and a staircase with a marble balustrade that leads to the noble floor. The patio also serves as a corridor distributor for the rooms around it. Guests were welcomed in the patio so first impressions were critical to achieving potential business.

Ornamental plants of great beauty were in the middle of the patio and even some trees provided light and freshness to the entire house organised around it.

On the ground floor used to be the warehouses, later turned into offices, and on the first floor were the noble rooms. The upper floor was reserved for domestic service and rooftop access.

In the province of Cadiz, we have the great luck of having vestiges of that time. And the palace houses, due to their uniqueness, have been preserved. These are houses full of history, art and good taste, in different degrees of preservation. However, their essence is always present.

We can find homes for sale of great appeal for special people. Fascinating tiles, original floors and ceilings, neoclassical style columns in the central courtyard, facades that take us back in time, and interiors that amaze. In short, a space that invites us to save their history or to get involved in it from an up-to-date and modern perspective.

The mix could not be more appealing. For those who want to own such a house and enjoy its history, art and beauty, we offer exclusive properties for sale that will far meet your expectations.
